Dollar Tree To Pay 190k Over Toxic Material Found In Kids Products

Dollar Tree Fined and Ordered to Enhance Child Product Testing After Toxic Discoveries

Washington State Agreement Directs Payment and Product Scrutiny

Attorney General Bob Ferguson Announces Enforcement Action

In a significant move to protect consumers, The Washington state attorney general has announced a legally binding agreement with Dollar Tree Stores, a national discount retailer. As part of this resolution, Dollar Tree has agreed to pay $190,000 and implement more rigorous testing procedures for children's products sold in their stores.

This decision stems from an investigation conducted by the Washington State Attorney General's Office, which identified toxic substances in certain products sold at Dollar Tree locations throughout the state. The investigation revealed that these products contained cadmium, a heavy metal known to cause a variety of health problems, including cancer and organ damage.

In addition to the financial penalty, Dollar Tree is required to enhance its testing protocols for children's products. The company must now conduct independent laboratory testing on all products specifically marketed to children or intended for use by children under the age of 12. These tests must meet or exceed the safety standards established by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
