Chelsea Draw: Every Word Enzo Maresca Said on Referee Decisions, VAR, Osimhen, Sancho and More

Napoli Assistant Enzo Maresca Gave His Thoughts on a Controversial Draw at Stamford Bridge

Napoli assistant coach Enzo Maresca gave his thoughts on a controversial 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Serie A leaders were denied a late winner when VAR ruled out a goal from Victor Osimhen for offside, and Maresca was critical of the decision.

Maresca also questioned the referee's decision to award Chelsea a penalty in the first half, which Jorginho converted to give the hosts the lead.

Maresca on the VAR decision

"I think it's a clear goal," Maresca said. "I don't understand why VAR intervened. It's a shame because we deserved to win this game."

Maresca also claimed that Napoli were denied another goal in the first half when Hirving Lozano was fouled in the penalty area.

"I don't understand why the referee didn't give a penalty for the foul on Lozano," Maresca said. "It was a clear penalty."

Maresca on the Chelsea penalty

"I think it's a soft penalty," Maresca said. "I don't think Koulibaly touched Havertz."

Maresca also suggested that Chelsea were fortunate to get away with a red card for Thiago Silva, who appeared to elbow Osimhen in the face.

"I think Silva was lucky to stay on the pitch," Maresca said. "It was a red card offense."

Maresca on Jadon Sancho

Maresca was also asked about Jadon Sancho, who made his full debut for Chelsea in the game.

"I think he's a great player," Maresca said. "He's very talented and I think he can be a great asset for Chelsea."

Maresca on the result

"I think we deserved to win this game," Maresca said. "We created more chances and we controlled the game for long periods.

"But it's a shame that we didn't get the three points. We need to learn from our mistakes and move on."
