Troubleshoot Ubuntu Installation on MSFT010100 Platform

System Requirements

To successfully install Ubuntu on your system, ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements: * 64-bit processor (x86-64) * 4GB of RAM * 25GB of free disk space * UEFI or BIOS with secure boot enabled

Error Message: Platform MSFT010100

If you encounter the error message "Platform MSFT010100" when booting your computer, it indicates that your system is not currently supported for Ubuntu installation. The MSFT010100 platform is typically found on Surface Pro devices running Windows 10 S.

Troubleshooting Steps

To resolve this issue and proceed with Ubuntu installation, follow these steps:

Disable Secure Boot

* Restart your computer and enter the BIOS settings. * Locate the Secure Boot option and disable it. * Save your changes and restart the computer again.

Create a UEFI Bootable USB Drive

* Download the latest Ubuntu ISO file from the official website. * Use a tool like Rufus or Etcher to create a bootable USB drive. * Ensure that the USB drive is formatted as FAT32 and contains the Ubuntu ISO file.

Boot from the USB Drive

* Insert the bootable USB drive into your computer. * Restart the computer and press the boot menu key (typically F12 or F2). * Select the USB drive as the boot device.

Start Ubuntu Installer

* Once the Ubuntu installer loads, select "Install Ubuntu" and follow the on-screen instructions. * When prompted, choose "Something else" as the installation type and select the free space available on your hard drive. * Create a new partition for Ubuntu and format it as Ext4. * Proceed with the installation by clicking "Install Now."

Install Ubuntu

* The installation process will begin and may take some time. * Once complete, restart your computer and remove the USB drive. * Your Ubuntu system should now be installed and ready to use.
